Time for Tights?

Hi All!

Just wondering what your opinions are regarding running tights? The weather here has been pretty chilly (in the 50s), and I'm thinking that shorts aren't going to work for much longer. I have one pair of capri running pants, but they are starting to wear out. What do you all recommend for chilly weather?
I do think this new weather change does help me to run for a longer period of time.

Thanks for your input!

  1. Hey Toni,
That's funny, I was thinking about posting the same sort of thing (and I'm 600 miles to your south!) Fall suddenly appeared in Atlanta yesterday, and it's glorious! High temperatures are in the low 70s, which is still pretty warm, but lows are in the high 40s. It was right around 50 when I ran this morning, and I was thinking that it was about my lower limit for shorts and short sleeves. I don't have any running tights, but I do have two pairs of stretchy (but not tight) pants (one from Dick's, I think they're Nike, and the other from Road Runner Sports, they might also be Nike). That's what I've been wearing in cooler weather for the past two years. I've never tried tights because I feel like my butt is too big. Hehe! Do you wear shorts over tights?

  2. I've never worn tights, but if I do start, I will definitely wear shorts over them since I have issues with my butt! :P Maybe I'll look for some of those pants you are talking about. My issue is that I hate paying a lot of money for work out clothes! Blah!

  3. Here's a couple pairs of pants (all under $40):

You can get tights pretty inexpensively too, but...I'm just not sure about tights. I'm afraid I would feel really goofy! :-P

  4. Friends,
I have several pairs of tights and its really the only way to go in the winter!!! :) Trick is to wear shorts over top of them!!! hehehe
(PS on a different note, I just bought my first pair of skinny jeans and the ladies in the store told me to wear loooong cardigans with them to conceal the hip area--same philosophy!)
Tights vary too on their warmth--I have some with a fleece lining which are great for really cold weather, but then I have some others that aren't that thick for just chilly weather.
In general though I have read that you should dress as if it were 20 degrees warmer because your body heats up so much running. Right now I have been running in shorts still but might switch over to capris soon.

  5. ps. Toni sorry I just re-read your post and I also hate paying money for workout clothes. My sports bras are all shot and I was resentful shelling out $10 at Target for a new one!!! :) Speaking of Target, they also have decent priced Champion lines of running clothes.

  6. I agree...I've gotten Champion clothes at Target before and they've held up well. Perhaps I'll make a trip there this week!
